Objetives

The overall goal is to promote exports and niche markets for organic products and fair trade (or + cj). These will be achieved through capacity building, market among organizations, and the integration of partnerships to promote exports (APEX)

The two specific objectives of the project are:

1. Improving the competitiveness of small and medium businesses producers (SMEs) in export chains values with strong products demand or + cj

2. Improve Central America APEX to support SMEs wishing to export goods or + cj

Strategy

The approach of the project is directed to the trading of organic and fairtrade products, therefore the activities proposed in the operative plan are focused towards the side of the demand of the market in the supply chain.

The project does not support directly activities of production, consequently strategic alliances have been established in Nicaragua and Costa Rica with organizations that work in production and technical assistance with the producers. This way they can work as a whole to be able to guarantee the connection between the demand and the offer of the market in order to reach the raised aims

Action Lines

• Focus on the dynamic markets and export demand-driven

• Adopt a perspective of value chains, by choosing products that are more exportable supply

• Having a regional view to facilitate regional exchange of knowledge and market relations

• Strengthen APEX rather than creating new structures. The APEX are increasingly playing a role in its economy better, and the project must strengthen its capacity to support small and medium businesses wishing to export goods or + cj

The biggest beneficiaries will be producers of small and medium-sized farm and their organizations in Nicaragua and Honduras. They will benefit from an advanced market and better prices that will enable them to increase their incomes and improve their socio - economic.

The indirect beneficiaries will be the Apex of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras. The project will improve their capabilities to promote exports of products or + cj in their respective countries.

Partners and allies by country

The project will work in partnership with the Apex. Service providers such as regional and international CIMS, Sipp and FIBL are aimed at capacity building within the Apex.

Achievements by countries
• Exports and sales made in the nine pilot projects increased by an average of 31% demonstrating a clear impact and validity of the approach of the project. These pilot projects can be seen as relating to other companies or + cj willing to improve the marketing of their products or + cj.
• More than 3000 small and medium producers increased their farm income through innovations in marketing. The development of brand marketing enabled extended to new market channels, benefiting over 800 families who have obtained better prices and logistics costs minimal. It succeeded in increasing exports, thanks to improvements in quality, packaging and participation in trade fairs.
