The Export Promotion Agency of El Salvador, in coordination with ECOMERCADOS, developed the workshop "Organic and Fair Trade Markets" led to Salvadoran businessmen organic food sector, The project stems from a strategic alliance between the Agencies of Export Promotion Central (APEXs) and ECOMERCADOS to develop joint actions to promote and develop farmers interested in organic production in the region.

The project aims to contribute to the development of export activities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Cooperatives, organized groups and potential producers, strengthening productive capacities, the generation of quality products and improving business management . The project aims to support the development of value chains in different sectors, including more particularly mentioned organics.

The trend of world market for organic products is creating great opportunities for organic agriculture, because of its growing international market demand. In 2001 the organic market value was 20,000 million in 2007 has increased to 40,000 million. An estimated annual increase between 10 and 20% of the value of the organic market.

The main market for organic products worldwide is Europe, with about 20,000 billion equivalent to 50% of global organic market. Germany is the second largest followed by the United States, Britain and Italy.

In 2007, Denmark, Switzerland and Australia have the highest per capita consumption of organic products in Europe. Switzerland has a consumption per capita of $ 162, one reason is its high purchasing power, enabling them to reward with good prices, and access to information and knowledge about the benefits of these products.

The organic market mark a trend with extra vegetables and fruits which receive a higher percentage.Germany and the United States reported ranges of 180% premium over conventional products.

The global market for organic products to the countries of the region presents a challenge in finding ways to unite all efforts in order to achieve and / or improve market positioning.
